These eco-friendly toys are the most versatile and popular in the eco-gadget world. These gadgets are suitable for both boys and girls and feature a strong educational element.
It seems as all toys need batteries these days, and there’s a heavy reliance on plastic too! So in addition to toys that encourage outdoor playing (such as footballs, frisbees, kites, etc) here are some eco-friendly alternatives that are more suited for indoors.
Hydrogen Fuel Cell Kits
Hydrogen Fuel Cell Kits are by far the most advanced educational toys that exist. Using a variety of techniques, water is split up into its component gases oxygen and hydrogen. Typically a solar panel is used to provide the energy for separating the gases. The hydrogen is then used to power a gadget, most commonly a car.
Solar Powered Toys
Solar Powered Toys are probably the simplest of all the educational toys where conventional batteries have been replaced with a solar panel, and sometimes a rechargeable battery. Many of the solar toys come as a kit, so there’s an element of construction too.
Wind-up Toys
There aren’t many wind-up powered toys as yet (apart from the clockwork variety). Again wind-up toys replace batteries with a rechargeable battery. The battery is then charged up by turning a handle a few times.
Recycled Cardboard Dens
These are essentially fancier ways of using cardboard than just having a box. The huge benefit in these cardboard dens is that they contain no sharp metal staples or edges that you get with standard large cardboard boxes.
